Accomplishments

  • In May of 2021 we brought sheep and goats into our smallest canyon along Eucalyptus Hill Road & Eucalyptus Hill Drive for fire mitigation. In May of 2022 we did the same work in the canyon behind Rametto Road, Cima Linda Lane, Owen Rd. and Alston Road. We are hopeful that this will mitigate some wildfire dangers. This was all funded by our neighbors through their generous donations.

  • Recently achieved placement of a neighborhood entrance stone off the Salinas Street roundabout, with the stone, engraving, and installation being donated by neighborhood businesses (DaRos Masonry, Santa Barbara Stone, and Santa Barbara Monumental), and assistance from the City of Santa Barbara in helping us acquire a grant to pay for permits.

  • Working with Cleveland School to beautify the campus with a new school gymnasium logo, assist with funding for Scholastic Books for the students while they were homebound during the pandemic, buses for field trips, and continue to encourage neighborhood volunteer involvement in mentoring and reading programs.

  • Working with the Santa Barbara Police Department to deter neighborhood crime and speeding on roads.

  • Supports the City of Santa Barbara View Ordinance.

  • Working cooperatively with other neighborhood associations, including MERRAG, the Montecito Association, the Riviera Association, and the Upper East Association.

  • Working with the City of Santa Barbara to improve safety and clean up of debris in our neighborhood parks.

  • Established a radio network for emergency communications and coordination for disaster response that includes twenty-six volunteers with radios across the neighborhood.

  • Actively communicated emergency information to residents during recent wildfires (Tea, Zaca, and Thomas fires) and the January 2018 debris flow.

  • Established a "Block Volunteer" program to help get important emergency information to our homeowners.

  • Worked with City of Santa Barbara to get installation of Barker Pass asphalt berm and Botts’ dots to help prevent drivers from running the stop sign.

  • Acquired permits, installed, and maintain the Alston Road Walking Trail.

  • Purchased "Dog Waste Cleanup" signs, making them available for free to EHIA members.

  • Worked with the City of Santa Barbara Streets Operations & Infrastructure Management Division in narrowing the "fog lines" on Alston Road to help slow down traffic and make our streets safer for traffic and pedestrians. Got blue "Please Respect" signs attached to the Alston Road speed limit signs.
